5. Sinus Infections
6. Skin and Nail Fungal Infections
7. Joint Pain

There are lots of different types of harmful microbes, and it is an unfortunate fact of life that one day you might get a nasty infection from one of them.

 Yeast Infection Microbes Candida

The three main types of microorganisms are viruses, bacteria and fungi. Candida is a type of fungi which can often cause a yeast infection called candidiasis, which is more commonly known as thrush. This type of infection most commonly occurs in female genitals, although men can also experience it.

A Candida yeast infection occurs when there is an overgrowth of the fungi, which can be caused from a multitude of things. Antibiotics can cause Candida overgrowth, so can drinking too much alcohol, eating too many sugary foods and having abnormally high stress levels. A weakened immune system and diabetes can also lead to candida overgrowth and infection.

Symptoms of Candida Yeast Infection

 Candida Itch

The symptoms of a Candida yeast infection differ depending on where it is that the infection occurs.

The general symptoms that Candida infection causes is a great deal of itchiness and irritation around the area of infection. It causes a lot of discomfort, and sometimes pain, especially when it occurs around the genitals.

Whilst men can get thrush, it is a lot more common in women. In fact, around 75% of women will experience thrush at least once in their lifetime. In terms of what to look for if you’re worried you might have thrush, there will generally be a lot of redness and sometimes you might even see some white discharge from your vagina.

 Candida Oral Thrush

Another common area for an individual to get a yeast infection is in the mouth. This is called oral thrush. The symptoms of this type of Candida infection include white bumpy patches in the mouth such as on the tongue, tonsils, inside of the cheeks or on the gums.

Then for a general symptom that can come with Candida infection, it’s very common for people to find themselves feeling very tired and fatigued due to the fungal infestation.

If you notice that you have any or all of these symptoms, then it is very important that you consult your doctor as soon as possible.

How to Treat Candida

There are a couple of different ways to treat a Candida infection. Two great ways to get rid of the yeast infection are with caprylic acid and grapefruit seed extract.

Caprylic Acid

Caprylic Acid

Caprylic acid is great for treating a Candida infection because it has antimicrobial properties and is believed to break down the cell membranes of Candida, destroying the fungi and therefore helping to get rid of the infection.

The oily liquid comes from certain types of mammalian milk and can also be found in coconut oil. Another great property it possesses is that it is anti-inflammatory, which means it is able to reduce any swelling you might be experiencing due to Candida infection, and so therefore can greatly help with pain management and making you feel more comfortable.

There is also evidence that caprylic acid is able to actually inhibit the growth of Candida, which is great for helping to prevent the progression or spread of infection.

Whilst caprylic acid is safe and something that doctors recommend for thrush, as with any type of treatment there are some potential side effects. For example, some people can feel nauseous after taking caprylic acid, or experience diarrhoea and flatulence. If you find yourself reacting particularly badly to caprylic acid, then it is important that you consult your doctor straight away.

You can get caprylic acid in the form of supplements, and you can get them over the counter from most pharmacies and chemists. This makes them so easy to get hold of and are also very easy to take. If you have thrush, then all you need to do is take 2 or 3 capsules every day and the infection should clear up in no time!

Here is our very own Candida Complex™️ created with an expert blend of both Caprylic Acid and Grapefruit Seed extract.

Grapefruit Seed Extract

 Grapefruit Seed Extract

Another great way to treat Candida infection is to use grapefruit seed extract.

The extract, which is made from the pulp, membrane and seeds of a grapefruit, has very useful antimicrobial and anti-fungal properties which is able to prevent further growth of Candida and helps to eradicate the infection by killing any residing fungi. It kills Candida cells in a similar way to caprylic acid, by breaking down the fungi’s membrane leading to a process called apoptosis, which is the death of the cell.

You can use grapefruit seed extract as drops, which you can put onto a cotton bud and then apply this twice a day to the area that is infected. Alternatively, you can take grapefruit seed extract as capsule supplements instead. These capsules can be found in most pharmacies, and you should take about 100 or 200 mg a day in order to fight off a Candida yeast infection.

Whilst grapefruit seed extract is great for helping to treat thrush, as with caprylic acid, there are some side effects that you need to be aware of. Due to the fact that it’s not very regulated by the Food and Drug Administration, there have been cases where some places selling grapefruit seed extract have been found to contain dangerous ingredients. Therefore, it is extremely important that you only get your grapefruit seed extract from a reliable source, and that you check the ingredients it contains. If in doubt, check with the doctor about what and where the best place to get grapefruit seed extract is.

In Summary

So, there you have everything you need to know about Candida, how to know if you are infected with the fungi, and what you can do to treat it. Caprylic acid and grapefruit seed extract are two great ways to get rid of thrush, they are so easy to take every day, and have very few side effects associated with them. However, just like when taking any other type of oral treatment, it is very important that you consult with your doctor first to ensure that it is safe for you and that you won’t react badly with any medication that you are already taking.
